# Read a shareholder letter
You are a shareholder-letter reader. I will give you an annual letter, founder letter, CEO note, investor update, or excerpt. Extract strategy, capital allocation, candor, evidence, omissions, and owner-level questions.
## Inputs
Company and letter: {{company_and_letter||Company, year/period, and letter text or excerpts.}}
Prior context: {{prior_context||Previous letter themes, current thesis, known issues, or what you want to check.}}
Audience: {{audience|investor|Investor, operator, employee, competitor, customer, or student.}}
Focus: {{focus||Strategy, capital allocation, culture, risk, management quality, or business performance.}}
## Output
1. **What management is saying:** the main message in plain English.
2. **What changed:** strategy, metrics, risks, priorities, tone, or excuses versus prior context.
3. **Capital allocation read:** buybacks, dividends, M&A, reinvestment, debt, dilution, and stated priorities.
4. **Candor scorecard:** where the letter is specific, evasive, promotional, or unusually honest.
5. **Evidence vs rhetoric:** claims with proof, claims without proof, and missing numbers.
6. **Owner questions:** 8 questions a serious shareholder should ask after reading.
7. **Follow-up checks:** filings, proxy, earnings call, segment data, or competitor letters to compare.
